Once the coffee tour is finished, we will start with the sweetest part of the tour, the delicious chocolate. Like coffee, we will talk about the entire Chocolate process, from the seed to the delicious chocolate bar and we will end up selecting some members of the group to grind the cacao beans and make their own chocolate bar. Once finished you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate. One of our main features is the infrastructure we have, since the Arenal Area is well known for having a very changing climate, it goes from being very sunny and humid to heavy rains, even with a electric storms on some occasions, that is why that 100% of our trails are protected and made of cement, which will allow to enjoy the tour on sunny or rainy days. Families with children who need to take their stroller or people with some physical limitation will not have trouble walking with a walker, crutches or wheelchair.

For the end visit Mr. Sloth Coffee Shop a store where you will find gourmet coffees and chocolates produced by women, in this special place tasting and learn to prepare coffee, enjoy a tamal , cooked by local families and wrapped in a banana leaf, learn how to make plantain empanadas with cheese, and try our famous Agua de Sapo, make with sugar cañe, lemon and ginger.

After booking our experiences, you will arrive at our kitchen where you will be very welcome and where you will share a good time with an authentic Costa Rican family. After introducing ourselves and getting to know each other over a refreshing drink, we will take you on a tour of our organic garden, where you will learn about the different crops and aromatic plants, followed by picking some of the ingredients that we will use for the preparation of our dish. When we return to the kitchen we will prepare a refreshing mojito to proceed to prepare a typical dish with fresh ingredients, produced by us and our neighbors. At the end of the preparation of the dish, we will consume everything prepared in a family atmosphere. Al caer la noche, acompáñenos a descubrir el delicioso mundo del chocolate donde aprenderemos todo el proceso desde la semilla hasta la deliciosa barra de Chocolate, una vez finalizada la explicación seleccionaremos a algunos miembros del grupo para moler el Cacao para realizar su propia barra de chocolate. Una vez finalizado tendrán la oportunidad de degustar varios tipos de chocolate como el Chocolate Oscuro, Chocolate con Leche y Chocolate Blanco. Una vez terminada esta dulce aventura, recorreremos nuestra finca para adentraremos a la extraordinaria vida nocturna donde podremos ver algunas especies de sapos y ranas como el gran Sapo Gigante, la gran Rana Come Pollos, las pequeñas “Joyitas del Bosque” como la Ranita Reloj de Arena y la más emblemática de Costa Rica, la Rana de Ojos Rojos. This is not a commercial coffee tour, it is an educational experience to create awareness in the only organic specialty coffee plantation in the Monteverde area, located in the Ecological Sanctuary, a 48 hectares family project focused on conservation, sustainability, agroecology, education and culture. In a guided workshop by an expert where you will learn from the basics of ancestral agriculture, how we create our own organic fertilizers, then you will know the coffee gardens planted in the forest that surrounds the Ecological Sanctuary, the drying area, and the process that involves the specialty coffee (history, plantations, growth, development, varieties and the science of flavor to prepare a good coffee). After leaving the forest, we will enjoy a guided coffee tasting, sharpening the senses to recognize defects, attributes, aromas and flavors in different qualities of coffee. Finally, we will create an interactive demonstration of the science of flavor and all the variables that an alchemist applies in the preparation of a coffee using different infusion methods. This workshop is an experience that will expand your knowledge of the world of coffee and help you become a home barista and an informed consumer. We’ll go to the cloud-forest in the mountains of Heredia on a LEVEL 3** hike that features a beautiful waterfall and amazing landscapes. We’ll meet in Heredia city center and drive to a Protected Area where we’ll trek through a recovered cloud-forest with exuberant vegetation and lesser fauna. We’ll visit a waterfall and if you’re up for it, swim in the pure, chill, mountain water! After exploring the upper layers of the forest from atop a lookout point, we’ll head back to town to recover and enjoy a "casado" in a typical lunch PLEASE READ THESE FACTS ATTENTIVELY ** ¨Level 3 hike¨ means: 3 out of 10 in difficulty. A ninety minutes hike with good inclines, some stamina is required. You need to stay hydrated. good for some kids and teens, not for beginners ** We’ll drive 11 Km (7 miles) to the FOREST and we’ll hike about 2 hours and a half. This experience takes 4 hours starting at 8:00 am. ** This 3 Km hike has a 160 meters altitude gain (1.9 miles hike in 525 feet incline). ** The trail is not paved and does not have handrails. Monteverde in Costa Rica is one of the best destinations for Birdwatching around different birds habitats. I was raised in Monteverde where I have been living all my life listening all the different bird calls all the time, that I can recognize 99% of them. My 31 years experience made me very exigent to use different birdwatching places, depending the season or weather conditions to see as many birds as possible. We'll start birdwatching at 6:00 AM, where we'll see about 30 different species of birds at an elevation of about 4,500 feet above sea level. Then we'll stop at the cafeteria for a quick Costa Rican coffee. After that, we'll move up to Curicancha Reserve where we'll walk through two different life zones including different types of forests (secondary, transitional and primary) plus open areas where we'll be able to see much more variety of birds or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others. Is good to know that if you repeat the tour, you must see other birds you didn't see the day before.. Typically we would see 60 to 70 different types of birds. Other things to note Bring binoculars, a bird book, hiking shoes, insect repellent, rain gear, and a hat.

If you like mammals such as sloths, armadillos, active birds such as owls, amphibians, reptiles, and many insects, then this is the opportunity to carry out an outdoor activity and learn more about the nocturnal behavior of many species of flora and fauna. It is an easily accessible route of around 2 kilometers, the ‘jewels’ of the cloud forest shine brighter at night. With luck, we will even be able to observe the famous bioluminescent mushrooms. the place where I do the night walk is very close to the center of Monteverde Santa Elena, it takes only 5 minutes by car. Let's wait for you to observe how the cloud forest comes to life at night.

Costa Rica is a small country in Central America that is home to around 5% of the world's biodiversity. Most animals in Costa Rica are nocturnal. If you like mammals such as sloths, armadillos, active birds such as owls, amphibians, reptiles, and many insects, then this is the opportunity to carry out an outdoor activity and learn more about the nocturnal behavior of many species of flora and fauna. It is an easily accessible route of around 2 kilometers, the ‘jewels’ of the cloud forest shine brighter at night. With luck, we will even be able to observe the famous bioluminescent mushrooms. the place where I do the night walk is very close to the center of Monteverde Santa Elena, it takes only 5 minutes by car. Esta experiencia se lleva a cabo dentro de una finca privada a través de áreas de conservación forestal, rodeada de bosque primario y secundario, dando a los visitantes la oportunidad de disfrutar de excelentes vistas panorámicas del Volcán Arenal y la selva tropical. Este tour está recomendado para adultos y niños mayores de 10 años. Con nuestros caballos sanos y bien entrenados comenzaremos esta increíble experiencia, en el establo daremos una charla de cómo cabalgar y luego andaremos 2 1/2 horas cabalgando a través de los senderos en el bosque lluvioso disfrutando de hermosas vistas . Tendremos acá la posibilidad de ver también animales como: monos, perezosos, coatís, aves como tucanes, pavos, halcones, etc. En algunas partes del sendero podemos galopar y trotar con los caballos. El peso máximo recomendado es de 100 kilogramos. En caso de que el clima sea adverso podemos tomar otra opción de sendero más tranquilo que es el Río Arenal, ambos increíbles parajes para la vida salvaje. Si requiere transporte al establo desde La Fortuna, el costo es de $5 por persona y recogemos 20 minutos antes del tour.

After booking our experiences, you will arrive at our kitchen where you will be very welcome and where you will share a good time with an authentic Costa Rican family. After introducing ourselves and getting to know each other over a refreshing drink, we will take you on a tour of our organic garden, where you will learn about the different crops and aromatic plants, followed by picking some of the ingredients that we will use for the preparation of our dish. When we return to the kitchen we will prepare a refreshing mojito to proceed to prepare a typical dish with fresh ingredients, produced by us and our neighbors. At the end of the preparation of the dish, we will consume everything prepared in a family atmosphere. If you come with more time than agreed there is a good chance to observe some animals such as frogs, birds and sloth that live in our garden.

Our day starts by meeting at our office located 20 min away from Liberia downtown through the small villages of Colorado and Curubande. We count with two parking lots at our location in Curubande where you can leave your car safe while we do the hike. From Curubande we will take a 4WD for 1 km that will take us to the entrance of the waterfall trail and here is where the hike begins. The waterfall is well hidden away on the outskirts of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano . The trail is 1.3 Miles (2 Kilometers) singletrack so together it is 4 km. There are some climbing to do in elevation and some caves to go across. Later to reach the waterfall we have to swim 25 meters through a beautiful turquoise river canyon. This is a local experience that takes place where the Blanco and the Colorado rivers cross through, forming canyons and beautiful scenery which is why the water in their pools have that special turquoise tint.

Al caer la noche, acompáñenos a descubrir el delicioso mundo del chocolate donde aprenderemos todo el proceso desde la semilla hasta la deliciosa barra de Chocolate, una vez finalizada la explicación seleccionaremos a algunos miembros del grupo para moler el Cacao para realizar su propia barra de chocolate. Una vez finalizado tendrán la oportunidad de degustar varios tipos de chocolate como el Chocolate Oscuro, Chocolate con Leche y Chocolate Blanco. Una vez terminada esta dulce aventura, recorreremos nuestra finca para adentraremos a la extraordinaria vida nocturna donde podremos ver algunas especies de sapos y ranas como el gran Sapo Gigante, la gran Rana Come Pollos, las pequeñas “Joyitas del Bosque” como la Ranita Reloj de Arena y la más emblemática de Costa Rica, la Rana de Ojos Rojos. Con suerte durante el recorrido podremos ver algunas especies de insectos, mamíferos como el perezoso y algunas aves nocturnas.

This is the MUST-DO experience in SJO for nature lovers! We will explore the hidden ecosystem resting inside the University of Costa Rica's campus, the first public university in the country, by the hand of the young biologists who study here.
